Game of the year? Game of the day, Week 1
Well, well...
Week 1 of of the spring 2026 season got off to a strong start here at JSSL.
This week's theme...
#anygivensunday
All I've got to say here is I definitely didn't necessarily expect theatrics nor did I expect base running shenanigans to be the difference maker in a classic showdown matchup between two of the most powerful teams this league between Loverboy and Blackout. I certainly was not disappointed with how this one played out, what a treat we got with this game.
Let's just say one team wishes they had done one thing, slightly differently during the game, I'll leave it at that...
Nonetheless, never underestimate any team's capabilities in putting up strong numbers to counter the opponent.
Loverboy put up a strong showing top of the first and then Blackout had one thing on their minds...not so fast! Putting up a big ol' seven spot of their own bottom 1, classic response of "we'll show you!"
This simply would be a preview of what was to come.
Classic back 'n forth game trading leads, tons of base runners, you name it, and just when you thought one team was going to roll over the other one....
NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN. said LB.
Top 7, down 20 to 16. You figure chances aren't great then all of a sudden they string together a nice rally here making it a close game, when with two outs, one-on you've got "Marky Mark" Ceralde coming up here. Having a good day, 2 outs, top 7, still down 20-19, no pressure.
"I'll do it myself" he says and what do you know...
BOOM!
Epic go-ahead 2-run shot to deep right-center on field C no less.
Their thoughts, 'could this really happen? We can beat these guys.'
Hold 'em off for 3 more outs they say.
WRONG ANSWER!
Blackout's got other ideas.
Al and Eddie lead off bottom 7 no problem and Andy "Big Red" Cook returns the favor to dead center, walk-off 3-run bomb 23-21 final Blackout W over Loverboy.
What a game.
One thing's for damn sure, this game will be an honorable mention for game of the year if it hasn't already earned that title.
On to week 2.
